SHELF 1

Handmade small shelf / desk organizer

As a functional solution to the problem of my desk organization, I designed and built this architectural shelf using joinery. It is built to precision for my speaker, keys, and other items that magically appear in my pockets.

An exercise in craftsmanship.

Spawner

a sculptural installation by Isaac Tiemann

At night, three silent forms hang side by side. Just out of arm's reach, the wind lulls them with a careful sweep. You walk closer. They are bags. Their contents are constrained by cloth, ripped apart, and woven back together. Rubber tread and battered black leather shine through gaps in the lumpy center bag. To the left and right, heavy angular bodies are bound with tightly knotted strands of the frayed dun fabric. The bags acknowledge their own lure but conceal the contents from the curious eye of the looker.

Peace After Pressure

without video portrait

This is for my favorite band – The Human Beings,

The faithful, the graceful, the tragic and the classic,

The evidence of things unseen, the book of light,

The mansions of the moon, the bones of Firaun,

Recently discovered and everything but new,

The doubters’ doubts about it never made it untrue,

Life, the gift, peace after pressure,

Can't remember how you came and wouldn’t bet on how you'll exit,

From the start, the only thing certain is the end,

Promised to all and none know not when,

Heartbreak from yesterday is a fret for tomorrow,

I leave today filled with anxiety and hollow,

If you pray don't worry, if you worry don't pray,

I got that from Umi, it’s a poem I heard her say,

From the tall palace walls, to the mean-teeth streets,

I hope you get what you want, and that you want what you need,

Amen.

Life is beautiful

Even when the world is wack

So much beauty we forget to be reminded,

That you can be anywhere and find it,

So much beauty we forget then get reminded,

That you can be anywhere, everywhere, and find it,

Mashallah.

Bang & Olufsen Turned Iconography

This image will serve as part of the iconography for Excellent Excellent going forward. It is subject to change just like most of everything on here but it tells an interesting story. I recently stumbled upon a Bang and Olufsen Beogram rx2 turntable at a thrift store. We were browsing around in the electronics section of the store when I lifted this dusty cover of what I thought was an old broken-down turntable. I was wrong. As soon as I opened it my eyes lit up at the sight of such a beautiful design. My mind instantly went to German designer Dieter Rams. His principles of simplicity and minimalism and his overwhelming use of steel seem to have

been shared by B&O designer Jacob Jensen who made this product. Jensen emphasized something that Rams did not, and it’s that exact thing that made me buy the turntable, touch. The Beogram’s platter has these patterned lines radially arranged around the center. They lay ever so slightly above the steel platter and add this tactile effect that I have not experienced anywhere else. As I am in the process of repairing this timeless piece of hardware, I have grown a real appreciation for the composition of the platter.

Beogram RX2

With the platter usually being under a slipmat and a record, I’m elevating the intentionality of the design to something more than just a piece of the listening experience, a stand-alone image. I made multiple iterations of this on Illustrator but it wasn’t complete until I brought it back to its original context. Seeing a circular image spin instantly references the many ways we listened to music before the streaming era. From the first phonograph to the last CD player, the spinning disk has been a staple image that is easily referential to the experience. The

Bang & Olufsen Beogram rx2 is an incredible piece of design, it is a testament to the power of simplicity. When you allow things to serve their purpose and to be themselves, the beauty becomes implicit. As they carry out their function the magic is revealed.
